In all marine systems, waste is continuously produced by fishes and converted to nitrate (NO3). In the long run, nitrate will be accumulated in the aquariums. Nitrate is toxic to fishes at high levels and is extremely toxic to some invertebrates even at low levels. Nitrate is also a major cause of nuisance algae problem. Concentrations of more than 20mg/l (ppm) should not be tolerated.
Skimz Monzter sulphur nitrate reactor is a very safe and effective way to reduce nitrate in a closed system. It is based on the principle of converting nitrate to nitrogen gas using specialized anaerobic bacteria in an oxygen-deficient environment. The use of sulphur beads encourages the growth of anaerobic bacteria as it oxidises sulphur as the food source. With a sulphur denitrator, there is no need to add a carbon food source to the reactor, unlike conventional denitrators. The result is a maintenance-free denitrator that works!
Skimz Monzter sulphur nitrate reactor incorporates a recirculating design. The base of the reactor chamber is integrated with the Water Swirling Chamber (WSC) which forces the water to move evenly upward and minimizes dead spots.

Skimz Monzter NM120
The NM120 has a reactor chamber diameter of 120mm and is ideal for aquariums up to 1000 litres. The NM120 is filled with sulphur beads which serve as food and growth substrate for the anaerobic bacteria.
The NM150 has a reactor chamber diameter of 150mm and is ideal for aquariums up to 2000 litres. The NM150 is filled with sulphur beads which serve as food and growth substrate for the anaerobic bacteria.
